During April and May 2012, Diamond Pet Foods issued a voluntary recall of a certain number of production codes and batches of dry dog and cat foods that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Diamond Pet Food Recall due to Salmonella Outbreak

Dry dog food manufactured in Diamond Pet Foods' Gaston, South Carolina production plant has been linked to at least 14 cases of Salmonella Infantis infections in 9 states. Confirmed outbreak cases have been documented in Alabama 1, Connecticut 1, Michigan 1, Missouri 3, North Carolina 3, New Jersey 1, Ohio 2, Pennsylvania 1 and Virginia 1. 5 people were hospitalized.

Salmonella Infection Symptoms

Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets an be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

Individuals handling dry food can become infected with Salmonella as well, especially if they have not thoroughly wahed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. People who believe they may have been exposed to Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.

Diamond Pet Foods has recalled nine brands of dry food formulas that were manufactured in Gaston. All batches manufactured between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 are affected. Several other brands, manufactured for third parties, are also in the process of being recalled.

All truck rentals require $ 150 deposit with cash or major credit card, a valid California driver's license and current automobile liability insurance. Allotted time use will be based on unit size rented. Client must rent a 5×10 or larger unit to use a DMBW truck.
