Ergonomic Chair Design, Fluid Ribbon Chair by Michael D’amato Posted: 23 Sep 2011 06:48 PM PDT Natural movement of the body restricted by the chairs with solid seats and backs. Splitting the chair allows the subtle but important biomechanical movements… and the result is a remarkable sense of freedom while sitting. The Fluid Ribbon Chair came about when Michael D'amato, a bio-mechanical engineer, was asked by his brother, who had some back problems and sits all day for work, to help design an ergonomic chair that would provide some relief to his situation. D'amato came up with a solid piece design, curved in the right places to provide support to the important parts of the body. But the most important part of this chair is the split in the middle. The new chair imbibes a contemporary look in a curved design. The curves are placed in the proper areas in order to offer maximum support to vital parts of the body. A unique feature of the new piece is that it is split in the centre. The division allows each side of the chair as well as the body to move individually which leads to continuous small movements during the sitting period. Fluid Ribbon measures 40cm in width, 60 cm in depth, and 90cm in height. The chair is available in aluminum and bamboo versions. Plans are also on to create a leather model of the piece. It offers options of a host of shades including silver, natural, red, black, and white and comes at a price ranging between $250-$2500. Modern Home Seaside Sanctuary by Henning Larsen Posted: 23 Sep 2011 06:21 PM PDT This fabulous seaside home designed by the Henning Larsen Architects is constructed on a grassy slope in Humlebaek, a seaside town less than 20 miles north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The 5,404-square-foot structure with gabled twin copper roofs is perched on a grassy seaside slope overlooking the tranquil Oresund strait and the Swedish isle of Hven. The large house stands out in a country not known for a showy nature. Unlike other pastel-colored houses in the well-heeled enclave, its exterior facade is brick, finished with a bright-white stucco wash. There is a wall of glass lining the entire back of the house, the side that meets Oresund. The exteriors of the structure is constructed with brick and finished with a bright white stucco wash. The entire wall is clad with glass covering the rear side of the modern architecture. The installation of dual roof made the structure look like the joining of two residences. The entrance is composed of smooth rectangular slabs of granite with color that complements the entire architecture – gray-blue. The focal point and the main key for the implementation of the house floor plans is the front door which leads to the modern steel and oak staircase that divides the contemporary house into two sections. Natural light is able to go into the home because of the floor to ceiling windows emphasizing the beauty of the rooms. The light reflects on the white plaster walls and Dinesen oak floors. Off to the right is his teenage son's bedroom, a guest bedroom and Dr. Moeller's home office. In the opposite direction, a narrow hallway opens into a cavernous light-filled space with floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The area is divided into a white-walled contemporary kitchen and a living and dining area where abstract paintings, mostly from the Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky, line the walls. A gas-burning fireplace from the Danish brand Boley is recessed into one living room wall. The entire first floor encloses a courtyard paved in stone. The upstairs level holds more bedrooms, including Dr. Moeller's, as well as his favorite place in the house — an upstairs living room with pale, angular Cappellini furniture, a 42-inch Bang and Olufsen flatscreen television, over-sized Ralph Lauren candles, a second Boley fireplace, and a prized possession: copy No. 249 of "Helmut Newton: Sumo," a 480-page book issued by Taschen, the German publishing house, and signed by the late iconic photographer. Printed in a series of 10,000, the 66-pound book is showcased in a Philippe Starck metal stand designed for the volume. Both the living and dining areas feature the walls that are clad with abstract paintings demonstrating art in the interior design. It is like an art within an art where you can find some of the finest from Belgian artist – Pierre Alechinsky. Entertainment is the theme for the downstairs basement as it is filled with state of the art home theater system, fitness center, wine cellar, personalized Jacuzzi and the 82-foot lap pool. Both the Jacuzzi and pool are lined with local granite and lighted with skylights. The owner wanted a home that demonstrates intricacy and the inspirational layout of this house definitely demonstrates what he wanted. The two-story and seven bedroom house is now a bachelor pad which stands out in a country that isn't known for having a showy nature. This is a unique design for a tranquil retreat that can sooth one's soul. |
