This contemporary home located in central district of Bordeaux France, designed by FABRE/deMARIEN architectes. This home built in compact shape and seemingly cold exterior hides a cozy contemporary home with a fresh look. The wall black and white contrast that is given by the window borders and the painted walls. In the interior, this contributes to a fun mixture of colors which cheers up the whole design. The windows have different characteristics depending on their location: some of them are entrance doors or connect the rooms with the balconies, other have the common functionality of providing light and airing when needed. Inspired by seaside architecture, Steve Lazar created an contemporary house at Hermosa Beach California, comprised three stories high on a corner lot with an expansive view of Hermosa Beach. The architecture is comprised of three trapezoidal structures, one atop the other. From the base, the residence narrows as it reaches the "look-out" tower room that gives onto a picturesque,1,600-square-foot grass-covered entertainment and dining deck facing the ocean. This house features an expansive living area and kitchen, four bedrooms, and three full baths and a powder room. The floors contain very broad planks comprised of Eastern white pine, which are not only a nod to classic Cape Cod floors, but also, because of their dimensions, can handle wear and tear better over the years. The kitchen features stainless steel with black granite countertops, and charming shaker-style cabinetry. The architects has creatively and methodically managed to appeal to both traditional and contemporary architecture buffs with the Lifeguard Tower. It is a romantic gesture to the past and a simultaneous whimsical nod to contemporary California beachside living.-Lazar Design/Build

The Stirling House located in Sidney Australia, also called 'The Ark' by local residents. This contemporary timber house was designed by MAC Interactive Architects. The detailing is contemporary in the way the cladding appears to end abruptly against the sky, whilst the windows wrap around the main edges to articulate the 3-dimensional form. To maximize the ceiling heights and achieve 3 storeys, the site was excavated – which determined the need for a concrete slab and upturns – which like most of the materials were then expressed rather than dressed. Timber flooring leads upstairs to "the softer" side of the house – which culminates in a carpeted rumpus/play space in what would have been the attic in a traditional terrace – but this space remains connected to the rest of the house by being in a mezzanine/loft configuration. The kitchen is the central focus of a less formal contemporary house – with a cultural 'need' to link internal and external living spaces. – MAC Interactive Architects
