B-99 House Design by DADA and Partners, in Gurgaon, India Posted: 23 Jun 2013 09:43 PM PDT Designed by DADA and Partners, located in Gurgaon, India. Courtyards have been an inherent design feature of Indian architecture serving as a climate modifier, a social gathering space and are referred to as 'Brahmasthana' (sacred center) of a house. Architects have used this idea and organized the functions around the central courtyard on both floors. The staircase custom-designed and fabricated out of steel and timber feels as if it is hung in middle of this lofty volume filled with light, facing a full height transparent wall. This glass and steel skin turns horizontal at the top and becomes part of the roof. Designed around a courtyard, the house incorporates a hierarchy of zones with formal living spaces in front and private areas at the back. The bedrooms and toilets are in the rear along the north south axis while the drawing, living and kitchen areas are grouped together in the front arranged along a linear east-west axis forming the spine of the house. |
House 108, House with Inspirational Block with Marble by A-Cero, in Madrid, Spain Posted: 23 Jun 2013 09:43 AM PDT House 108, House with Inspirational Block with Marble was designed by A-Cero, located in Madrid, Spain. The inspirational block is built with marble, studying the placement of the stone with respect to curved shapes and edges. Notable side cantilevers provide weightlessness to the building. At the main entrance, dark vertical granite stone contrasts with the predominant clear granite in the façade. The windows are large facilitating a flood of light into the house into the ground floor hall, kitchen and service room, and in the lower basement level light enters from windows leading to a garden created by a the gap in the topography of the plot. Here lie the intimate areas, space for sleeping and leisure.
With a total floor area of 1,000 sq m, the result is a house that has dialogue with the surrounding natural environment and that represents the A-cero philosophy of architecture design |
