Paul Richards House Design by Max Pritchard Architects, in South Australia Posted: 23 Jul 2013 09:43 PM PDT Paul Richards House was desiged by Max Pritchard Architects. Located in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, this small house was designed to fit among large eucalypts and enjoy distant views of the heavily wooded hills.
The design of the house as a tower form minimizes the footprint on the site, limiting soil and vegetation disturbance, whilst reflecting the strong vertical form of the mature trees. Projections or “saddle bags” from this tower house cupboards, stair landing and balconies. These are clad in sheet plywood and corrugated iron, reinforcing the colour and texture of tree trunks. The roof shape was chosen to eliminate gutters which would be prone to blockage by leaves, while still providing for collection of roof water. A square roof dips to form a diagonal valley which continues out from the building as an aquaduct to the rainwater tank. [ Other house design by Max Pritchard Architects ] |
