5 Great Tips To Help You Buy The Right Home Furniture

Posted: 04 Feb 2014 05:37 PM PST

Summary
People need to be careful when buying furniture if they want their home to look great, so I’ve spoken about a few things they should keep in mind when they’re looking for something new.

Buying a house is hard and there are lots of things you need to take into consideration before you pull the trigger. Buying the right furniture can sometimes be just as complicated and you want to make sure you get it right. If you end up with horrible furniture it will ruin your home, but we’re going to stop that from happening by looking at a few things you should think about before you go on a shopping spree.

Decide what style you like
When it comes to buying furniture it’s not as easy as you think. Do you like modern furniture or are you more of a classical type of person? Do you like bold colors or earthy ones? There are even thousands of different patterns you can choose from. Once you decide on a style you should try to stick to the same one throughout a room because everything doesn’t always go well together. If you look through magazines and websites you’ll find all the ideas you’ll ever need.

Time to admit defeat
Just because you like a certain piece of furniture it doesn’t mean you should buy it. If you have young children you obviously don’t want to buy a couch with sharp wooden edges because they could hurt themselves if they trip up. It’s also a bad idea to buy anything made from fancy fabrics if you have pets because they could destroy them when you’re at work. Take your lifestyle into consideration when you’re choosing anything and you won’t end up with a frown on your face.

Buy expensive furniture
If you buy cheap furniture you will only need to replace it a few years down the line. It probably won’t even look great and you’ll get bored of it after a while. When you buy expensive furniture you will cherish it and it will make you smile every time you look at it. If you’re spending so much on furniture you don’t want to buy anything you don’t need, so only splash out on the essentials. You can still buy some cheap furniture if it’s nothing important.

Don’t buy everything at once
You need to buy everything at once when you move into your first flat or house because you don’t have anything to start with. That changes when you move into a new place because you can take your belongings with you unless you’re moving to a new country. Don’t feel like you need to buy a completely new set of furniture at the same time because it will cost lots of money. Buy one or two pieces instead and over the months or years you can add to your collection.

Have a good look around
The moment you walk into a furniture store you will feel like a kid in a candy store. Your money will be burning a hole in your pocket and you’ll be tempted to buy something there and then. You don’t actually have to rush into anything and if you wait a few weeks you might find something much better. Have a look around many different stores and only buy something when you exhaust all other options. If you don’t buy something right away it’s still going to be there when you go back for it.

Forget about the past
Are you happy with the choices you made the last time you redecorated your home? The last time you bought anything I bet you just choose the first thing that looked nice, but hopefully everything we’ve spoken about today will help you make better choices next time around. Once your rooms look perfect you’ll be glad you put more thought into your purchases.

The Easy Changes You Can Make Around the Home That Will Improve Your Health and Energy Levels

Posted: 04 Feb 2014 05:29 PM PST

Feeling well can make all the difference in your life, and how good your day is going to be can almost always be predicted by how much energy you wake up with when you first bound or groan your way out of bed. Improve your routine, find ways to make yourself healthier, and your day will follow suit…

The problem of course is that it can be hard to make yourself feel better and more energetic, when you feel down. Improving yourself lifestyle requires energy in itself – so if you’re feeling rough and can hardly bring yourself out of bed, then you’ll probably struggle to adopt a new training regime or a new eating plan.

What you need then is something that can break you out of old bad habits and help you to pick up your routine. Here we will look at some of the easy changes you can make around the house that will do just that. By changing just a few elements of your layout and swapping a few of your utilities, you can make a surprising difference in your energy and your feeling of wellness. Read on to learn some tips you can start out with…

A Window and a Chair
For most of us the living room is a place to sit and watch TV. Thus all our sofas and armchairs are pointed directly at the television and that’s what we’re compelled to do as soon as we crash down.
This though will only make you feel more exhausted and more unwell if you are coming home feeling drained. Instead then, make sure you have at least one chair somewhere where it’s not facing a television and perhaps instead facing out a window into your garden. This will give you somewhere to sit and relax where you can take in some natural light and enjoy the greens of your grass and plants, which in turn will help you to unwind when you’ve had a busy day.

Also important is making sure you get a lot of light naturally when you’re doing other things. The cleaner your windows are, the less cluttered your windowsills are – the healthier you’ll feel.

Air Conditioning
Ever find yourself feeling closed in by the heat around you and almost struggling to breath? If the quality of the air in your home isn’t good then this can take a lot of energy out of you and make some of the simplest things difficult.

The purpose of your air conditioning then is to help lower the temperature so that you don’t feel too stuffy, but at the same time to clean the air and let you breathe more easily. What’s also important here is that you install a filter and make sure to clean your ducts out regularly if you have ducted heating to avoid letting dust and grime build up that will then be spread around your rooms.

Also important is to improve your air quality by making sure it doesn’t get too cold – so make sure you use your heating as necessary, and to ensure the humidity is right using a humidifier or dehumidifier if necessary.

Pull Up Bar
Building a home gym will certainly help you to get more exercise in your home, but it’s not that feasible for most of us. More accomplishable however is to insert a pull up bar in your doorframe which you can then challenge yourself to use every day when you pass underneath. At the very least, create some space in your living room so that you have somewhere you can jump around and burn calories while watching exercise videos.

Bed
Finally, make sure you invest in a great bed that will support you and keep you comfortable throughout the night. The right mattress, duvet and sheets all make a big difference too.
Then make sure that your room is dark and quiet. This might mean moving your bedroom to a different room at the back of the house, or it might mean growing a hedge by the window to block out the light from a lamppost. When you make these changes though, if you get a good night’s sleep as a result, you’ll find it makes all the difference to your day.

South Melbourne Residence 2 by Nicholas Murray Architects

Posted: 03 Feb 2014 11:35 PM PST

This is South Melbourne Residence 2 was designed by Nicholas Murray Architects. This project involved the reconstruction of a Victorian timber workers cottage on a site measuring 8m x 30m. Local council and heritage guidelines meant the new building had to be concealed under a 12 degree line taken from the front gutter. The design outcome was a large 2-storey extension with a skillion roof following the view line.

From Architects : ” This project involved the reconstruction of a Victorian timber workers cottage on a site measuring 8m x 30m. Local council and heritage guidelines meant the new building had to be concealed under a 12 degree line taken from the front gutter. The design outcome was a large 2-storey extension with a skillion roof following the view line. This resulted in an inverted plan with living area and balcony over bedrooms and garage. With a core consisting of a large void and pond, the residence has ample light, outlook and natural ventilation, defying the sites – congested characteristics. This void also defines the differing zones for the occupants of varying age groups to co-exist privately. These zones are further reinforced by full height sliding partitions. ”
