Mistakes to avoid in interior design Posted: 16 Oct 2016 03:52 AM PDT Designing your home for the first time can be a daunting task. It is, however, a very interesting and exciting project. You do not have to be a professional interior designer to achieve good results. With a little bit of research and enthusiasm you too could have a beautiful home. A wealth of information is available online from theory of design concepts to multitude of DIY projects done by home owners and enthusiasts. Both are hugely valuable as they show not only how to approach design but also mistakes to avoid. Giorgio Armani once said that good designer also needs to be a good psychologist. What this means, is that the interior design needs to be centred around the home owner. The starting point for any project should not be new trends or current styles but instead the tastes and preferences of the user. So with this in mind, when decorating your own home, you will have a distinctive advantage over any design. No designer can know your tastes and preferences better than you do and therefore potentially you could create something that will reflect your personality perfectly. Another fact to keep in mind is that the entire property needs to be looked at as a uniform design rather than separate rooms independent of each other. Every room in the house should have a running theme. This does not mean that all rules need to be the same. It's not necessary, and in fact should be avoided, to have your living room identical to your bedroom, or your bathroom identical to the kitchen. This kind of design will be unusable, boring and unexciting. The uniform theme can be achieved with a number of minor details which will bring the entire design together. The devil is in the detail. As with any lengthy projects, planning plays a great part. Before you start you should have a very clear idea in your mind we are trying to achieve and are looking at going for. So roll up your sleeves and start designing.
