Remodeling Vacation Residence in East Hampton by Bates Masi Architects Posted: 24 Feb 2013 04:07 PM PST The originally residence was design at 1974 in East Hampton New York. After Thirty-five years, new owners sought to rejuvenate the house while preserving its spaces, seasoned tones, and texture. Clad inside and out almost entirely in twelve-inch wide cypress boards, the original house exuded a straightforward simplicity the owners wished to maintain. By constraining the palette of materials and reusing salvaged parts of the existing house; the line between new and old becomes nearly imperceptible, limited only to minimal inflections in finish. In the enlarged and updated baths, and in the modernized kitchen and dining terrace, dense glacial sedimentary sandstone is used for its fine workability into a variety of finishes. In this way the stone varies subtly – only in texture – as it is reapplied from one surface to another: horizontal walking surfaces are rendered with a smooth honed finish, vertical wall surfaces with a rough flamed finish, and countertops in a glossy polished finish. This tactile language is traced consistently from room to room. In enhancing the simplicity of the original design, a subtle complexity has emerged. Splices, cuts, and finishing techniques inflect upon otherwise homogenous materials, recording the methods of craft and workmanship. Ocean View Beach House-OS Beach by Nolaster Posted: 24 Feb 2013 04:07 AM PST The private sustainable home with ocean view was design by Nolaster Architect and has 360 site areas in Cantabria, Spain. The most exposed façade of the house is the green roof. The main program develops in the first floor, over a ground floor that consists of garage, facilities, storage, porch and south garden. Other features include an inner yard to provide an open space protected from wind and rainwater collection for reuse fushing toilets and watering the roof and garden in summer. The black panels are zinc; ideal for seaside houses as it lasts longer. If desired, the entire house can be dismantled and reconstructed elsewhere, as the panels have been screwed together rather than welded. Efficient underfloor heating allows temperature to be controlled room by room, consuming only as much energy as is needed. The modern aesthetic, gorgeous Euro context, and green materials and systems is the most inspirited this house. The plot slopes downwards and is cut by a 30 meter-high cliff against which the waves break. The Northern sea wind is very rough, making it hard for trees to grow by the coastline. The plot size is 90 x 50, 4500 m2 and 8% building rate, that is, 360 square meters. Maximum height is 3 meters eaves, 6 meters total. Distance to the lateral edges 10 meters, and 12 to the back street axis. A new topography is defined in order to protect a rear south garden from the strong and persistent sea wind. This house built for a family of four and overlooks the bay on one side and the ocean on the other. With an emphasis on entertaining, the house includes guest suites, staff quarters, an outdoor pool and a rooftop terrace. Interior of this house sheathed in European limestone and a rare African hardwood, Afromosia. Southampton House comprises three master bedrooms, three guest suites, staff quarters, and extensive living and entertaining areas.
