It took another 4 years to fill the lake with water from the Colorado River Aquaduct beginning in 1999 untill 2003. The lake is considered one of the best fisheries in California, and has several species of freshwater fish including Largemouth Bass, Smallmouith Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Rainbow Trout, Stripped Bass, Channel Catfish and Shad. The lake also has a recretional park, aquatic center, visitor center and the Western Science Center along with the lake marina located on the eastern end of the lake. A viewpoint, offering views of the pumping station and I/O tower along with most of the lake is located on the western end of the lake. To the south of the lake is the Southwestern Riverside County Multi-Species Reserve. The reserve is a 13,500 acres preserve between the Diamond Valley Lake and Lake Skinner, is the home to at least 16 sensitive, endagered or threatened native California bird, animal and plant species. |
