5 Ways To Make Your Home Brighter Even When It’s Sunny Outside Posted: 24 Jun 2014 12:34 AM PDT Summary I’ve talked about a few ways people can brighten up their home because they will feel better, plus it will stop them from turning on the lights and wasting energy all the time. Over the last few months you’ve probably realized something you knew all along. Living in a dark and dingy home isn’t nice and you must be looking forward to the sun coming back in full force. There are actually a few things you can do to make your home look brighter right now. I’ll share a few examples with you so you can test some of them out. Some changes might cost a little money, but there are others you can easily implement within a few hours. Install some skylights Some rooms inside your home might not get a lot of natural light, but that doesn’t mean you need to go crazy with stronger bulbs and extra lamps. Instead of installing new windows you should think about putting in some skylights. If you have a kitchen extension at the back of your home it might not get a lot of light depending on how well it’s hidden from the sun, but a skylight or two will let in much more light. The garage is another room that could benefit from a skylight because they’re always usually dark. Let your room sparkle When the sunlight comes through the windows you can make it go further by letting it bounce off things inside your room. The obvious example to use is mirrors because they will deflect the light to every corner of a room. If you look around you will find beautiful mirrors that would look great anywhere inside your home. You can also do the same thing with crystal ornaments. They will brighten up your room a little if the sunlight bounces off them when it comes in. Add a conservatory A conservatory is definitely the easiest way to brighten up your living room. The only downside is the cost involved, so if you want to add one to the side of your home it should be because you’re desperate to make it a little bigger. The extra light would be a bonus, but a very good one considering you wouldn’t need to switch your lights on until the sun completely disappeared. Because it will have a glass roof it will also let a lot more heat in too. Get some plants Laying some plants around a particular room can change the way you feel about it. When you have plants in your home they make you feel great, but they also brighten up any room in an instant. You just need to look after them because a dead plant won’t brighten up anywhere. Flowers are also a good idea, but this can end up costing you a lot of money in the long run because they won’t last very long. Go and buy one plant to start with so you can see if it’s something you want to explore further. Change your accessories Some things cost a lot of money and changing them is a big deal, but accessories are cheap and cheerful so you should always start with them. Take the covers off your seat cushions and buy bright ones. Get some lovely new sheets for your bed and make sure they’re bright. Make some room on your windowsills for candles and light them when you’re chilling out. Just look at all the small things you can replace that will make a difference to the look of your room. Winter is nearly over In a few months it’s going to start getting brighter anyway, but don’t let that stop you from making a few changes around your home. Even when the sun is shining brightly your home will still be able to benefit from the changes you make and by the time next winter rolls around your home won’t feel like a castle dungeon.
