The goal from their advice is reducing density on the surface of the soil and to protect green land at ground level. Some European countries such as Switzerland, Italy, France and the United Kingdom since a long time already use the underground area to construct public facilities or housing. In Indonesia, the concept of building in the underground area still rare even though the rule was made by the government. This is due to Indonesian people not knowing about appropriate design for building a house in the basement. As a result they think that owning a house in the underground area is not fun.  Basement-design-layouts To build a basement in your home, there are a few things that you should be aware of, namely: 1. Regard to the boundary line when begin start building the basement. Give attention to position of the boundary lines of the basement. Usually the position of the boundary line is more going forward than the basement boundary line building and close to the boundary line fencing. 2. Pay attention to the conditions around the area you built basement. When build the basement, you needs to know the conditions that exist in the ground because underground often used to track utilities such as plumbing systems, phone nor electricity network. In addition, you must know about environment around the area mainly bordered by neighbor's building because the wall that you will built in the basement can’t be coincides with neighbor's walls. It will affect the power of your wall. If the wall of basement coincides on one of the neighbor's walls, you can use the sheet pile. Sheet pile is generally made of steel or concrete that serves as a retaining wall. Retaining wall used to withstand pressure loads of land and water. 3. Regard the position of ground water conditions. Ground water condition is certainly different in each region. If groundwater in lands that were built high enough, there are several ways that can be done. The first step is to prepare the pump, then block around the work area with plastic or tarp. This is done to anticipate impaired puddle when construction processes (casting and assembly of reinforcement). Next make the trenches around the construction area of the basement to circulate water around the site and then pump so that the water go out of the work area. 4. The basement walls should be designed to be sturdy and strong because its function as a retaining wall (retaining the load pressure of soil and water). Thickness of the wall ranges from 15-17.5 cm, depending on the depth of basement floor. To anticipate presence of water seepage, the wall must covered with waterproofing. 5. Regard the material that will be used. The main issue that often arises in the basement area is moisture, because it is under and rarely exposed by sunlight. Beside unhealthy, humid conditions also may damage the room and the objects in it. A solution to overcome this problem is use a waterproof paint to coat the walls. Do not uses wallpaper because in wet and humid conditions, wallpapers will be easy become mushrooming. Other material that needs to be avoided in humid basement conditions is the carpet. Carpet will smell at humid condition. If the basement humidity rather high, avoid furnishings are made from wood, particle board or other materials that are not resistant to damp conditions. Better choose furnishings made impervious to water, like plastic materials. 6. Pay Attention about air circulation. Basement room is in the basement, so it is very possible that have high humidity levels. To avoid humidity, plan a good air circulation system. Therefore need to be considered regarding the circulation of air in it. There are 2 types of air circulation that can be applied in your basement. - Natural air circulation. These circulations do not need the assistance of a mechanical air circulation. There are several ways to obtain a natural air circulation in the basement. First, apply the semi basement systems. In this system are not all the building basement built under the ground, but there’s a part of the basement that is above ground. This is the part that can be used for ventilation. The outward-facing in semi basement systems can be used as circulation. Second, use the sunken levels. A sunken level is made with the way in which one side of the basement is open to the outside. Side facing to the outside can be utilized to get natural air circulation. Third, build houses on the slopes or sloping land. Building basement on house on sloping land does give double benefits. In addition to being able to used for the circulation of natural, sloping position could also be used to circulate water, so minimize the use of a mechanical device (pump) in the basement and a semi basement. The slope of the land can be used for the circulation of air and light. - Artificial air circulation like AC or exhaust fan 7. You must consider about furniture and lighting in the basement. After the basement space already designed, you will need to equip it with the furniture. For set up the furniture properly, consider the function of the space. Adjust the size of the piece of furniture with space extents. Be aware also of magnitude on the basement entrance to the furniture that you purchase can be put in the room. If everything is in place, complete the basement room with the good lights, so it can be comfortably used to have activity.
