Types of In-Ground Pools · Vinyl-lined Pools. This is one of the simplest types of in-ground pools to build. It is somewhat similar structurally to an above ground pool. What contractors do to install this is to dig a hole in the backyard. A frame is then constructed around the border of the hole and then a layer of san d is placed in the bottom. Before installing the pool, the ground is dug out, plumbing s laid and sand is poured into the bottom of the pool hole. The pool, which looks somewhat like a bathtub, is lowered into the hole. The pool is then leveled before being connected to the plumbing. Pools of this type can be built in just 2 weeks. Fiberglass in-ground pool prices range from $10,000to $17,000 for a small one and from $13,000 to $18,000 for a big one. · Concrete Pools. This is one of the most durable types, however, it is also the most difficult and the most time consuming to install. These can be customized by painting the concrete in whatever color you like. Embellishments can also be added, like pebbles or plaster for a one of a kind look. The pool may also be custom built to fit the shape of the yard. Materials for concrete pool are not that expensive but the labor is very much so. · Gunite Pools. These have a similar construction to concrete. The only difference is after the framework grid of rebar is laid in the ground, a thick coating of gunite, a mixture of cement and sand is mixed with water to produce concrete material, which is sprayed around the rebar. The gunite is then smoothed with trowels. After a week, a smooth finished is applied. Gunite, just like concrete, takes longer time to build but the durability you get with the product is worth the wait. The cost of this type of pool is more or less like concrete pools.
