Porter House Condominium in New York Description from SHoP Architects: “Located in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan, The Porter House at 66 Ninth Avenue is the renovation and conversion of a six-story 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse built in 1905 to residential condominiums. A new 20,000 sq. ft. addition added four stories to the existing building and an 8 ft. cantilever along the building's southern exposure. Employing a custom fabricated zinc panel system for the façade and floor to ceiling windows, the verticality of the structure and the unique interface between the exteriors of the original Renaissance Revival façade and the new addition are accentuated. Internally mounted light boxes blur the massing of the building as day turns to night to create a visualfocus from the open urban square at Ninth Avenue and 14th Street. Minimizing material waste, the project team worked closely with the fabricator, using software standard to the she he most efficient layout of panels on a standard width of sheet material. Since the panels were cut and bent directly from our digital files, an economy of scale was achieved in the manufacturing process while achieving a highly custom look with variable sized panels.” Porter House Condominium in New York Porter House Condominium Interior Porter House Condominium Interior Reference : shoparc.com |
