This clubhouse Completed in February 2004 by SHoP Architects, the client is Virgin Atlantic Airways. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Description from SHoP Architects : “Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class lounge at JFK Airport was conceived as an environment to celebrate both the power and possibility of New York City, and the excellence and irreverence of Virgin Atlantic Airways. It is an urban oasis, entered into beneath a glittering waterfall and bounded by a 90 ft. long pool which accommodates dining along its interior bank. Screen walls enclose the bar and seating areas, addressing both the lounge's need for privacy and intimacy and the airport's requirement to preserve a sense of openness to the runways beyond. Because the project was built with union labor, the intention of the screen design was to automate the variable elements (cutting all the uniquely shaped parts) and standardize the assembly process to reduce skilled labor costs.
