Marcus Beach House – Sustainable Beach House Design by BARK Design Architects Posted: 14 Apr 2013 05:08 AM PDT Built in 727 sqm site area, Australian based architecture firm BARK has design a sustainable beach house just 250 meters away from Marcus Beach, Queensland – Australia called "Marcus Beach House". The house is open and light and possesses simple sustainable design principles to passively defend the occupants from the elements. Windows and doors are strategically positioned to capture the prevailing breezes whilst roof overhangs are generous protecting the house from direct summer sunlight. Air conditioning has not been installed in the Marcus Beach House nor is it desired. The roof over the Master Bedroom pavilion rises to the north providing a band of high level, operable, clerestory glazing capturing daylight and allowing any warm air to escape, setting up an effective 'stack effect' natural cooling process. As the heart of the house, the covered double height outdoor room is actively used all year round as dappled sunlight is filtered through a timber batten screen hung below the roof structure. Indoor and outdoor realms are connected through an interlocking series of alcoves and nooks like a low edge deck seat and reading nook pop-out located off the stair landing. This modern house designed by Frederico Zanelato | Architects, in sharp ascent facing a thicket providing the occupation of social and intimate on a single floor at high level where the view was privileged. In the interior, living room and kitchen are designed in an integrated and a grand opening this volume frames the green landscape. The bedrooms, playroom, office and bathrooms take the body back of the house forming a courtyard reserved for more family living activities.The only flat roof covering the dorms creates another volumetry which also houses the water tank.?Glass panels bring transparency. Ceramic coating the floor of the social areas, and masonry walls to receive plaster lath.
