House in Canobbio by Davide Macullo Architects Posted: 17 Apr 2013 05:08 PM PDT This house sited on a 30 degree south facing slope in Alpine slopes north of Lugano, designed by Davide Macullo Architects. Carved in a clear square geometry, the spaces meet the slope and extend in a spiral, fluent movement that continuously changes the perception of the space and its relationship to the exterior, offering striking panoramic views across the hinterland and to Lake Lugano. This offers a direct relation to the outside from all parts of the house at all levels. The aim of the project is to ensure a visual continuity between the internal and external spaces but moreover, to extend the space beyond its physical boundaries and into the surrounding landscape, 'borrowing' the landscape and projecting the idea of space beyond its material limits. The succession of spaces and play of perception in the house are ideas derived from those principles of the Japanese garden. By their design and their nature, Japanese gardens offer varying levels of awareness of and responsiveness to space by offering an experiential sequence of different sceneries. As in the gardens, the organisation of the spaces in the house is condensed yet continuous and is intended to take the experience of being in the house beyond the rooted and enclosed domestic scale. In addition, the house also works on both an intimate and vast scale. - Davide Macullo Architects The post House in Canobbio by Davide Macullo Architects appeared first on Home & House Design Ideas | Interior. |
Noyack Creek House by Bates Masi Architects Posted: 17 Apr 2013 05:07 AM PDT Designed by Bates Masi Architects, Noyack Creek House became a study in architectural theatre: a series of spaces in a carefully scripted sequence that subtly reflects his professional life. The path begins at the front door where perforated privacy screens slide apart like a curtain, revealing the loft-like living and dining spaces. Beneath the stair, hidden backstage for maximum privacy, the guest room shares the water view through a nearly hidden sliding door. The master bedroom is connected to the bath by a bridge overlooking the public spaces below which are lit by the glazed stair wall. Lined with a guardrail of stainless steel cables recalling a fly loft and catwalk, the path culminates in the master bedroom with its wall of glazing overlooking the water. The siding system is manipulated for varying degrees of privacy as well. -via The post Noyack Creek House by Bates Masi Architects appeared first on Home & House Design Ideas | Interior. |
Wurzburg Vacation Retreat in Savannah by archimania Posted: 16 Apr 2013 05:07 PM PDT The 4,829 sf retreat located on a wooded lakefront site surrounding the forest in Savannah USA. This vacation home designed by Memphis based architecture office archimania. The program included a contextual, yet modern residence with enough living and sleeping space to accommodate a large extended family on weekend getaways. To maximize the panoramic views, this residence is partially embedded into the steeply sloping site which reduces the home's visual impact from the street. The entry pathway that leads visitors through the site and into the home splits the main volume of the structure into distinct public and private zones, resulting in a dramatic framed view of the lake upon entry. These two wood and glass volumes rest atop a stone base which extends up the north elevation to provide privacy from the street. The low sloped roof of the public zone directs toward views of the forest, while the private zone opens toward the water. Warm, rustic materials speak to the wooded nature reserve and surrounding natural landscape, while clean lines and minimal interiors express the client's affinity for modern design. – Photos by Brian Laskaris The post Wurzburg Vacation Retreat in Savannah by archimania appeared first on Home & House Design Ideas | Interior. |
